The 'Pearl of the Adriatic' Sea, Dubrovnik was founded in the first half of the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum, who established their settlement at the island and named it Laus. The Old City survied a major earthquake in the 1600's and the Croatian War for Independence of the 1990's.  Now a beautifully peaceful and independent country. You must visit the Old City of Dubrovnik!
